  1. I especially enjoyed the ‘Let’s Play’ questions. I like the the idea of creating a character’s definition, but then pulling out opposites, or other external views of the character to give them more depth.

  2. Your session gave me insight into character development for my WIP. Thank you for the handout and excellent examples of how characters are developed.

  3. Thanks ladies! For the first time I formulated this thought as I took notes during your session: The child feels how the character feels!

  4. Thank you, Kate & Valerie, for a great session. I love how you broke down the components of a character’s inner and outer layers. Your use of mentor texts was very helpful, as were the questions you had us consider as we develop our multi-layered characters. Thanks again!

  5. Great session. Thank you for the questions. They helped me to “see” my character as a real flesh and blood person.

  6. I love the idea of taking some opposite characteristic of one character & giving it to another character & create a scene for their interaction.

  7. Thanks, Kate and Valerie. I just listened to your session, and it gave me some great food for thought for my own character development. It really helped me think about how to give my character some room to breathe, to grow and to express themselves through story. I loved A Rover’s Story and now I’m going to have to get that for my grandson!

  8. Thanks for a wonderful presentation. I liked your clear explanation of outer and inner traits, and the examples from a variety of books. I look forward to playing with your questions and games as I revise my story.
