  1. Great session – useful for Children’s Book Authors as well as Authors of other Genres like me (Crime-Mystery).
As I was listening to you and reading the screens, I was thinking about how would I SHOW someone typing on a computer, frustrated when wrong answers appear (or no answers at all); restarting to take a different approach or use a different resource; getting discouraged, and finally getting a suspect – before starting over to identity the victim or other suspects, …..
I’ve attended other online (multi-day, multi-presenter) put together by author-trainers but explained using words but gave few real examples that suggested descriptive words that would convey images. Having illustration slides that combined words and images helped a lot.

    1. Thank you, Ralph! I’m so glad the examples and slides helped, and it sounds like you’re already putting this into practice!

  2. This was an excellent session on showing instead of telling. Your clarification in words on slides between the sample children’s book text images were great examples.

Thank you for your Children’s Book Mastery Summit 2024, this week.

  3. I was glad to see concrete examples of showing vs telling. Much appreciated! Considering reaching out to Karen later for more feedback on illustrations from her own portfolio.

  4. I hope I can show my characters in a way that readers will relate to them and gain joy from reading. Reading is so important for children’s growth. Thank you for the workshop. I learned a lot about this corner of the world, writing and publishing books for children.

    1. If you keep working at it, I am sure you will create wonderful characters, Jeff. And you’re very welcome!

  5. This was a very interesting and informative session! The slides together with the examples from the books were great!

I really like your Top Tip – very well explained and very encouraging, thank you.

Thank you for organizing this Children’s Book Mastery Summit and thank you to the speakers for sharing their knowledge!

  6. What a helpful and positive session. I enjoyed the way you shared examples of showing from some charming picture books. The slides really helped to make your points clearer. Your advice at the end about setting goals that are applicable to you is so practical.
    Thank you.

  7. Thank you, Karen, for this session and the entire summit! For this session, I have appreciated the clarity of show vs. tell, and found the camera test a super helpful one. The summit has been so valuable for me! I’ve taken comprehensive notes throughout, and have about a few dozen tabs open to explore! I’m going to use the coming week to review, chew, and digest. A million thanks!
